Perfect kaya toast and coffee, in a little alley .

If you like the Malaysian ‘kopitiam’ experienceof eating breakfast alongside the chatter of locals, old friends casually dressed, coming for their morning coffee, surrounded by the swooning smell of local coffee and buttered toasts.. you are going to love Toh Soon Cafe!
Toh Soon Cafe has been at the junction between Lebuh Campell and Jalan Penang for many years... attracting many locals and tourists, despite it's slightly hidden location.
It's a busy "kopitiam" with not more than 20 tables - you'll see people queueing up to get a table, or sharing tables with strangers.

The main attraction at Toh Soon is definitely the local Malaysian coffee - it is strong, a bit of the 'sour' type coffee - beats the chain run big coffee brands any day!
And.. not forgetting the toast, to accompany your delicious cup of coffee. Soft, pillowy slices of white bread are toasted the traditional way - with charcoal. You'll see a green heating device - fired by charcoal - heating a pot of boiling water on top, for the coffee, and beneath... a toasting area for the bread (on a wire rack). The results of charcoal toasting - crisp bread on the outside.. sandwiching luxurious dollops of BUTTER and traditional kaya (a Malaysian 'jam' of coconut milk, eggs and sugar)

Kopi and Toast, with two runny half boiled eggs - a typical Malaysian breakfast. In my humble opinion, Toh Soon Cafe is one of the best places in Malaysia to sample this. They also sell nasi lemak in packets and delicious home made curry puffs.
Toh Soon is usually very busy - so try to come here earlier. They are also short staffed, maybe just 4 family members running the stall. It might be hard to get their attention and order, but don't be put off by this, they are actually very polite and friendly when you do get their attention, just extremely busy.
