Hostel Ah Wai, Hostel Ah Zhi places you in the center of Alor Star, steps from Kedah State Art Gallery and within a short 5 minutes stroll to Balai Besar. Go a little further, and you'll reached to coffee shops. Shopping, food, attractions just around the hostel. While easy transport and free parking is a plus. Parking available right opposite to the hostel. If you're coming by commuter, take a Grab and is just RM4 from the train station, of course, by using the promo code will be free of charge! The noise it makes at night is the biggest con for someone who's light sleeper. Clunk Clunk Clunk consistently. Perhaps you'll get a snorer in your dorm room to distract you. NO WORRIES. They have earplug for you! Totally free and will block out sound and wouldn't distract by the sound.
This hostel is a formal typical goldsmith shop being progressively renovated and excellently located within 5 minutes to the nearby train station. Most of all the owner of the Hostel keeps as much as history as possible within the unit. Sound cool right.
Smoking Area
This hotel is also smoking friendly, with a dedicated smoking area available. The smoking area is at the back of the hostel. It has the comfy couches.
Common Area - Dinning Table and Kitchen
Another small plus is the owner will provide local breakfast outside. The kitchen has plenty of equipment and large enough for everybody. It always nice when they provide free water, bread, coffee and tea maker and jam 24/7. All the room features free WiFi , statelite TV. Well, complimentary snacks also provided.
Dorm
The dorm was considered quite spacious for me, and they did have a big locker right beside the room to keep your things safely. You will get our own private space, clean and comfy tent with different name of the tent. Beds are sturdy. Doesn't feel like an earthquake whenever someone walking in or outside uses the ladder. Mattress are premium linens and Pillow are good with plenty of sockets beside the bed so no worries about out of battery! Blankets was comfortable. Air conditioner keeps the room as cold as you like. Of course, a personal lamp in case you need light when everyone else doesn't.
Toilet
Hostel bathroom can be the worst part of budget travel, but they're not all bad. Some are actually just as nice as you'd find in a hotel.
There is a one mix bathroom for everyone are perfectly adequate and available. Shampoo and shower gel are provided. You'll find nice touches like slippers and free toiletries there. Service and cleanliness were what you'd expect. We never had to wait to find an available shower.
If hot shower is important to you, they do have hot shower!
